This September, take a stroll through history with the New Castle Historical Society’s Greeley Farm Walking Tour. Much of the land that is now the center of Chappaqua sits on what was once Horace Greeley’s 78-acre farm, where his family spent their summers from the 1850s to the 1870s. The tour starts on the front porch of the Greeley House, home of the New Castle Historical Society, and travels to ten stops to explore how they’ve changed from the mid-19th century to today. Along the way, discover the ecological features that drew the Greeleys to Northern Westchester, learn how the landscape impacted how they lived, and witness how their legacy shaped the community we see today. This tour is offered as part of the annual Hudson River Valley Ramble and takes place rain or shine!

Tour tickets include same-day admission to NCHS. Participants can visit the historic Greeley House and see our Fall Featured Artist Exhibition, Botanicals & Birds, featuring recent works by New Castle artist Sarah Wry alongside archival materials from the NCHS collection.
The path includes sidewalk, paved walkway, and dirt trails with some uphill portions. It is not wheelchair accessible. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking and standing. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Water and sun protection are strongly recommended, especially on hot days.
