The Great New Castle Hunt

October 3, 2026

Saturday, October 3

1:30 - 6:00 PM

The Great New Castle Hunt, presented by the New Castle Historical Society, is a one-of-a-kind competitive scavenger hunt created in collaboration with the creative minds at cityHUNT. This event is for ages 21+ only.

Using cityHUNT’s interactive mobile platform on their smartphones, teams will explore New Castle by car and on foot as they solve clues, complete fun challenges, answer trivia, and uncover the rich history, hidden gems, and fascinating stories that make our community unique.

Tickets:

$80/person for Scavenger Hunt and BBQ Reception

$50/person for BBQ Reception only

The adventure begins with team orientation at 1:30 PM at the historic Greeley House, where participants will receive instructions before embarking on The Great New Castle Hunt from 2:00–4:00 PM. Every clue, challenge, and successful task earns points, and teams will compete for fun prizes as they race to the top of the leaderboard. The team with the highest score will earn the title of Great New Castle Hunt Champions.

Following the hunt, all hunters and huntresses are invited back to the Horace Greeley House for a celebratory barbecue reception. Le Jardin du Roi is preparing a generous feast worthy of our intrepid adventurers, complete with complimentary beer and wine to enjoy while scores are tallied, stories are shared, prizes are awarded, and this memorable day comes to a close.

Proceeds from The Great New Castle Hunt directly benefit the New Castle Historical Society’s educational programs, exhibitions, community events, and the preservation and maintenance of the historic Greeley House. As a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the New Castle Historical Society relies on the generosity of our community and the success of events like this to preserve our local history for future generations. Your participation helps ensure that New Castle’s stories continue to be shared, celebrated, and protected.

How does the hunt work?

Hunter will form a team of two to six people. Each team designates a technology captain to use the cityHUNT mobile platform to follow the clues and submit answers. Your goal is to adventure around the area, solving clues, taking photos and videos, and most importantly, having fun. The team with the most points at the end of the hunt wins!

Once you purchase your ticket, it’s time to get ready for your New Castle cityHUNT Adventure! You will receive a confirmation email with your tickets attached and information about how to prepare for the hunt, including a cityHUNT code to register your team.

Important note about your cityHUNT code

Every ticket holder will receive the cityHUNT code, but only ONE person per team should use it to register the team.

That person is your technology captain. If you are not your team’s technology captain, you do not need to register in cityHUNT or enter the code.

If you don’t have a team yet, you do not need to register in advance. Bring the code with you to orientation. We’ll place you on a team, and your team’s technology captain can register once your team is formed.

Already know who your teammates will be?

Great! Choose one person on your team to be the technology captain. The technology captain will register your team in the cityHUNT mobile platform and manage the clues on the day of the hunt.

The technology captain should arrive with a fully charged phone and bring a portable phone charger, just in case!

Don’t have a team yet?

No problem! Come to the 1:30 PM orientation at the Greeley House, and we’ll help form teams for anyone who isn’t already on one. Once your team is formed, you’ll choose a technology captain and register your team in the cityHUNT mobile platform during orientation.
